Decol Futures: As the Crow Flies
A newsletter to learn about practical ways to decolonize your research and data work-lives with byte-sized drabbles about the daily life of a data professional.
See You in 2025
Thank you to everyone who’s read and subscribed to my newsletter! I started this platform in February this year to create a space to share my expertise and start conversations about how data work can be done, seen, taught, and lived.
I write little comics to summarize what the heck I did in the last 365 days. And I’ve been super into crows this year. So the character “Crow Dana” was born.
As a non-conventional data scientist, I don't see anyone doing what I do for my career. Decolonization is to dismantle systems of power. And it's a power dynamic issue that has us all thinking (including myself at times) that data professionals need to always fit in a box.
Next year I plan to continue writing two issues a month and adding a section dedicated to a current project I’m working on where I explain. I hope my work and this newsletter continues to inspire and educate you. I want to leave you with a quote from a poem that I often think about:
No one knows what you need to do more than you do. Cry when you need to. It’s relieving. Laugh when you need to. It’s healing. Sit alone when you need to. It’s necessary. Surround yourself with strangers when you need to. It’s eye-opening.
Let’s Create!
I’m open to collaborations, freelance gigs, and conversations about the ideas I shared. Feel free to get in touch and comment on the newsletter.
